Boost for new homes in Charnwood as outline permission granted for 133 dwellings

07.12.12

The pressure on housing supply in Charnwood was a major factor in a decision to grant outline planning permission for 133 dwellings to the west of Shepshed, Leicestershire.

The development, on the edge of the floodplain, has gone to enormous lengths to protect
local wildlife and ecology. It also creates additional public amenity space opening up previously unappealing farm land.

The scheme of 133 dwellings, which was reduced from an initial proposal for 200 homes, is a low/medium density development with a broad mix of 2-5 bedroom homes. The scheme faced fierce local opposition from many residents in Shepshed, but ultimately the decision made by the planning committee had to take into consideration the need for housing.
