Paul Smith is widely respected within local government and the housing sector, and is the current Cabinet Member for Housing at Bristol City Council.
A Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing, Paul has over 30 years’ experience in housing. His previous roles include Executive Director of Placeshapers, Regional Manager at the National Housing Federation, Chief Executive of Housing Potential UK, and senior positions at two housing associations. Paul also sits on the Housing Ombudsman Advisory Panel and is a member of the board of Connexus Housing Group.
In his role as Cabinet Member for Housing at Bristol City Council, Paul has responsibility for delivering the Mayor’s ambitious housing strategy to deliver 2000 new homes per annum. Alongside radically increasing house building in the city, Paul also over-sees the Council’s stock of 27,500 homes, and spearheads Bristol’s drive to prevent and reduce homelessness.
To ensure that Paul’s work does not conflict with his role as a councillor or his cabinet position on Bristol City Council, Paul will not be undertaking any assignments in Bristol or within the West of England Combined Authority.
