Simon joined Cratus at the start of 2015 after spending eight years as a Councillor in Croydon, and from 2010-2014 he served as a Cabinet Member running one of the Council’s departments. Having returned as a Councillor at the 2018 elections, this background has given him extensive experience of how local government operates and a strong understanding of the decision making process in local authorities.
His cabinet role covered two portfolios during the four years. Firstly he oversaw regeneration and economic development in the borough, before then covering community safety and public protection. In this role he worked with the Police to improve safety in the borough and covered licensing, regulatory services and sat as a member of the South London waste Partnership, Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership and the Croydon town centre BID.
Between 2003 and 2012 Simon worked as a researcher for the Conservative Assembly Members at the GLA where he supported the AMs with policy papers, political advice and making sure they were fully briefed and leading on issues in London.
